The people behind the process

Dr. Lionel A. Carreira

Co-Founder and President

ARChem founder, Dr. Lionel A. Carreira, is Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at the University of Georgia. He received his B.S. in Chemistry at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1966 and his PhD in Chemistry from MIT in 1969. Dr. Carreira’s main area of interest involves developing novel methods for the computer estimation of fundamental reactivity parameters strictly from molecular structure. The new computer technology of expert systems provides for imbedding theoretical knowledge as well as calculation algorithms into computer programs which can, in principle, shorten the distance between scientific theory and computer implementation. Over the past fifteen years he developed SPARC an expert system that captures the reasoning process that a chemist might undertake in reactivity analysis. The approach primarily involves deductive reasoning and is theory/mechanism oriented. The computational procedures are based on mathematical models of chemistry.

Thomas S. Stribling

Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Stribling has more than 30 years experience in the health care, biomedical and pharmaceutical industries, focusing upon start-up and turnaround companies. During his career, he held senior level positions in several entities that were privately and publicly owned. Companies he led have traditionally reached successful and profitable liquidity through sale to larger domestic or international corporations.

Dr. Saravanaraj Ayyampalayam

Co-Founder

D. Saravanaraj Ayyampalayam graduated from the University of Georgia receiving a PhD in Chemistry. Dr. Ayyampalayam co-developed SPARC during his graduate schooling. Over the years he has worked on most of the SPARC subsystems and has enhanced the systems performance. He played a pivotal role in the development of the web based client interface to the SPARC server. Dr. Ayyampalayam is well versed with intra-networking technologies such as raw TCP/IP communication protocols. He has an excellent command of Prolog, the programming language in which SPARC is written. He is also very proficient in Visual Basic, Active X, Java and Perl.

Jason Carreira

Vice President

Jason Carreira has been developing and architecting enterprise applications for 10 years. He’s worked both in large corporations (IBM Global Services, Kodak, Xerox) and startups. In his spare time he has been a core developer of the XWork framework and WebWorkMVC web framework at OpeningSymphony (now Struts2 at Apache), and is the co-author of WebWork in Action from Manning Publications. He has spoken numerous times at industry conferences on software architecture and open source projects.
